File Server

File servers are the best way to share files between multiple users in the office.  They centralize the location of the files that need to be shared as well as controlling access to those files.

What to look for in a file server:

  • Sufficient disk space to hold the files you need to server, including space to grow into.
  • A hardware RAID controller.
  • A minimum of three disks for a minimal RAID configuration.
  • Server operating system with properly configured access control.
  • Appropriate backup strategy
  • Properly sized network connections.  Redundant connections are a plus.
  • Dedicated server hardware
  • Redundant power supplies
