Computer Maintenance

Your computer is pretty good at letting you know if something is really wrong, but often it is better to find out that a problem is developing rather than to be told that it has arrived and now there is nothing you can do about it.

The purpose of computer maintenance is to check for the warnings that your computer may have given you but you either did not see or did not realize were serious.  On more than one occasion I've been called in to recover a computer that won't start and  found that it was a failed disk drive that should have been warning them every time they turned on the computer.  Invariably the person using the computer said that they had seen the message but did not realize it was serious.  A fifteen minute job just turned into a three hour nightmare.
